Where I'm From

Where I’m from
I am from the stage.
From song and dance
I am from bright shining spotlights,
And quietly observant audiences
From the happiest of comedies,
To the saddest of tragedies
From the suspense of a murder mystery,
To the imagination of a children’s show

Pre-show nerves get me warmed up,
Audience reactions keep me going.
The warmth of the lights gets my blood flowing
My heart beat is in my ears
My mind is racing
And my hands are shaking

I think “what is my next line?”
And “when is my next move?”
We’ve run it a thousand times before
This one is no different

I am from hours of rehearsal
From months of work
From massive amounts of stress
And equal amounts of pressure
But in the end,
I am from the payoff of performing
From joyous laughter and saddening tears
From friends, from family who come to show their support
I am from the theatre

  1. I like how it starts with I am from the stage and concludes with I am from the theater. You have some nice effects, such as using inner dialogue, etc. One thing that could make it even more interesting is a stanza that reflects on some of the roles you've played "I am from the sinsiter smile of....or whatever role it might be, like the awkward life of an downtrodden boy (Charlie Brown).
